HeadsUp is a mental health promotion project run by the Rehab group which is structured towards mental health awareness and suicide prevention efforts by providing timely and appropriate information and support mainly for young people in the 18-24 age group. As part of their major fundraising for 2012 a group of 40 volunteers are taking on the “5 Peaks Challenge” over the August Bank Holiday weekend, this involves climbing the highest mountains in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales over the course of 3 days. Each volunteer is asked to raise €1800 in sponsorship and your support is requested for the fundraising events over the course of the next few months for 2 locals taking part in the event, Brideen McCarron and Maire Callaghan. Events already planned are a Table Quiz on Friday February 17th and a Trad session on Sunday 18th March, both events in the Lighthouse Tavern. Further information on the Heads Up programme and the 5 Peaks Challenge can be found at www.headsup.ie.
